LEISURE LINK

Leisure link is being promoted as part of our ‘sport for all’ and ‘healthy living policy’. This is a project designed to ‘link-up’ leisure – sport – people and communities. All of these things mean the same to a person with a disability as they do to the able bodied person.

Their requirements are the same:

  • Access to a facility
  • Good coaching
  • Peer support
  • Administration that encourages participation

While IWA-Sport is a multi sport organisation and has clubs and resource centres throughout Ireland, it is not always possible to organise activities to meet the needs of members. In this light we need to look at the possibility of linking up with other established local groups. The use of their facilities can be arranged. Sessions can be organised in most local leisure centres.

We encourage our members to become involved in sport and recreational activities in their own communities. Sport is an ideal vehicle for integration.

The aim of the programme is to offer solutions regarding availability of a link to sport and /or recreational activities in the local community thus increasing participation.

Does your club/organisation/community group support a policy of inclusion? Are you receptive to people with disabilities? Can we help you to be more inclusive? Our development officers are available to advise and visit your club/organisation.
