5th Irish Wheelchair Tennis Open Report

The 5th Invacare Ireland Irish Wheelchair Tennis Open took place in David Lloyd Riverview from august 20th to the 22nd.

There were two categories A and B and a very high standard of tennis was played in both categories throughout the weekend.

The event was once again a great success and was organised by IWA – Sport Development Officers Mark Barry and Orla Dempsey.

IWA – Sport would like to thank Jim Watt and George Stevenson from Tennis Ireland who once again provided great support assisting with coordinating the event.
Once again Invacare Ireland and Neil Harvey sponsored the event and their sponsorship of the event is greatly appreciated.

Of particular note this year was the introduction of the first mixed junior doubles exhibition match between Johnathan Hayes and Tadgh de Freine and their respective coaches. Both of the boys played superbly and this can be attributed to the ongoing support of Carrickmines Tennis club and their coaches Catherine Merrigan, Ben and Una Cranwell and Pat Crowe who offer their expertise on a weekly basis developing wheelchair tennis.

Once again well done to everyone who assisted with organising and running the event and well done to all contestants.
