Best Start: Inclusive Schools Training

What is it? - The Best Start Inclusive Schools Project is an IWA Sport initiated and led project which has been in existence since 2007. The project has grown organically since 2007 following year on year demand from parents and primary school teachers for our Sports Development Officers to visit schools and inform and support teachers in relation to including children with a disability in the PE class. We aim to educate teachers in the benefits of inclusive practices and imparting the best methods for including all students within their P.E. class

Who is it suitable for? The project is aimed at qualified or trainee teachers or lecturers.

How is the programme delivered? There are a number of ways we are requested to deliver training…

  • A parent contacts a school and requests the school to contact us
  • A school or third level institute makes direct contact with us and requests a visit.

How do we deliver the training?

There are two methods…..

  1. Visiting the schools –we deliver a practical PE class to teachers in the school environment demonstrating inclusive sport
  2. Visiting third level institutes – delivering practical and theory sessions to trainee teachers in third level colleges
